Sick, Tired, & Broke

Somehow I got sick Monday night. I am unsure how, or why, but I felt just fine before waking up Tuesday with a postnasal drip, my mortal archenemy. No fever, of course, just incredibly snotty and overall uncomfortable.

I managed to make it to jury duty, which was interesting... I did make it to selection, and part of me wanted to be selected but I am not sure if I get paid for that time since I'm not salary, so I am glad I didn't get selected in the end. Sitting in traffic on the way home made me even happier I wouldn't need to sit in traffic like that for the rest of the week as well. And I managed to squeeze a workout in before heading out, which always feels good. I even had resolved to try and get up a bit earlier to make that my new norm... at least give it a shot, see how busy my gym actually is at that hour.

However, I woke up even sicker Wednesday, and got absolutely nothing done... same for Thursday. I actually only got like 4 hours of sleep Tuesday night because of how uncomfortable I was. It feels kind of embarassing to admit how much of a baby I become when I'm sick, but I'm trying to be gentle with myself. It's probably my inner hater saying "see you're weak, give up on this project, you already broke your habit." So I won't give em the satisfaction.

So I haven't made any progress this week on my own projects and have barely kept up with my job, but that happens. I have managed to do a little research but I need to make a decision on whether I want to keep on with this free tutorial course or move to something paid and more official. I also need to decide if I wanna get a new laptop or what, because I'd like to work on this project remotely and my old Razer laptop just isn't going to cut it. I might be able to repurpose it for something else... I might also find my old macbook pro and put linux on it since it should be more stable, at least. I could also finally make that cyberdeck, something cheap and simple. I think the last option is best in the long term, but I don't want to go too far down the rabbit hole. Maybe I find a quick kit for the first one, if I can get it cheap. Aside from that I just want to get 4 hours of studying my HTML/CSS done every week next month.

I also need to reset my new workout plan next week, which calls for like... four 90 minute workouts and then two more 45 minute workouts... that's what, seven and a half hours? Dang. I can do it though, and get the rest of my stuff done. Need to spend that time cleaning up the apartment this week since I'm punting on working out due to illness. Need to play with Parmesan as well, I feel bad about how little I've been able to play on his level. My foot's feeling much better though so I might be able to try running him tomorrow morning... maybe just a walk, actually.

I am finding this blog/journal/whatever practice really helpful, so I am proud of myself for keeping up with it. Helps me recap a week so it feels less out of control, and puts me in a headspace to get some work done. Makes me feel like a writer, I suppose. I would like to add some media reviews or something to the site so I can do it some more. Get me off of the social web and onto the indie web, or whatever. Anyway that's it.

If you're reading this, future Ed - you aren't doing as bad as you might remember, so don't use it as an excuse to give up. And even if it has been bad, remember the circumstances without letting them be excuses; it's only a problem if you treat it like one. Keep going and make the even younger version of yourself proud.
